I love dogs!. I have been blessed to have grown up in a family surrounded by dogs, especially hounds. My mother raised Grand Champion English Coonhounds and my dad regularly hunted his beagles and coonhounds and participated in field trials and night hunts. Because of their involvement with dogs and raising quality hounds I learned early on the important considerations necessary to produce great dogs. My mom also raised Thoroughbred’s and so again, breeding was purposeful and calculated and I learned from this. Growing up, weekends were spent in the show ring either with horses or hounds. I also enjoyed the night hunts and field trials with my Treeing Walker, True Grit.
My husband is also an avid hounds man and has owned and hunted coonhounds, beagles, German Shepards and English Foxhounds that he used for running coyotes.
As an adult with my own family I got away from the hounds because the raccoon population declined sharply. I began raising labs in 1992 and I will never not have a lab. It is no coincidence that the Labrador Retriever is the most popular dog and has been since 1991, according to AKC statistics.
My first Lab, Sherie’s Sugar River Gypsy was everything that a wonderful lab should be and more. Sadly, after 13 wonderful years together, I had to say good-bye to her on July 17, 2005. Though heart broken by Gypsy’s passing, I knew that I needed to find another lab to love. While there are many labs available, it was nine months before I found the quality that I was demanding.
We live with 2 teenage boys and our lab babies on 15 acres of reclaimed pasture with grassy field, two ponds, a brook and a river as a boundary. There is lots of wildlife around us including the girls’ favorites, wild turkey, partridge and woodcock.
